Join Tradestaff Global as a Pipe Fitter or Pipe Welder in Antarctica! APPLY NOW for this unique opportunity & be part of the upcoming winter season starting February 2025!THE ROLES: We are recruiting experienced PIPE FITTERS & PIPE WELDERS to work on the American base, McMurdo Station.
- Pipe Fitter: You need extensive experience in pipe fitting, fabrication, brazing, soldering, & working in a commercial/industrial environment. You should be comfortable reading schematics, working with pumps & flow valves, & lagging pipes. The pipework will mostly involve copper pipes up to 4” in diameter for heating systems & fuel lines up to 6”. You must also be willing to assist other trades & perform basic labouring tasks.
- Pipe Welder: In addition to the above requirements, you must have extensive experience in pipe welding & hold a current ASME IX ticket.
- TRAVEL: Flights provided from any major NZ airport.
- AMENITIES: Food, shared accommodation & travel insurance provided.
- RATES: $71.68 contract rate per hour, paid fortnightly in NZ$
- EQUIPMENT: PPE supplied as well as specialized cold weather gear.
EXPECTED HOURS:
- 54 hours per week, working 6 out of 7 days. This schedule remains consistent regardless of weather conditions.
- Positions start around February 2025 & run through till September 2025. This is not a FIFO role; you will be away for the entire period. Start dates are approximate depending on medical & security clearance, your notice period, & ice flight availability.
ESSENTIAL TRAITS:
- TEAM PLAYER: A positive attitude & willingness to be part of a hardworking, supportive team are crucial. Remote projects require a solid team effort.
- FITNESS: Exceptional fitness is necessary due to long hours & extreme conditions.
- VACCINATION REQUIREMENT: Fully vaccinated for Covid-19 due to Antarctica travel requirements.
- EXPERIENCE: Provide recent referees who can validate your experience.
- LICENSING: Hold a current ASME IX Ticket (for Pipe Welder role) & be able to provide proof at the interview.
- REFERENCES: Submit a current detailed CV outlining your skills, experience, & types of projects you’ve worked on.
- IT SKILLS: Competent in handling detailed paperwork & IT-related tasks.
- PATIENCE: The application process is thorough & will take several months to complete. Be prepared for a detailed & lengthy process.
Due to the strict medical requirements & background checks, the onboarding process can be lengthy & influence start dates. Applicants must be in excellent health & undergo a comprehensive medical & dental examination to receive clearance.
CRITERIA TO MEET:
- CITIZENSHIP: Are a NZ or US Citizen with a current NZ or US Passport.
- LOCATION: Be currently & permanently residing in New Zealand.
- INTERVIEWS: Conducted via phone & video.
- MEDICAL TESTS: You will need to travel to Tauranga for dental & medical tests. We cover exam costs & provide flights/accommodation for those outside of Tauranga.
- LICENSING: Hold a current Full Class 1 Drivers License.
- CRIMINAL RECORD: Have a clean criminal record. MOJ Checks will be conducted as part of the interview process.
- TESTING: Must pass pre-employment & random drug/alcohol testing.
