THE ROLE: Commercial building on a large project with the work involving basic & repetitive building duties at times.  You’ll need to be happy to pitch in & help other trades if required including basic labouring.  There are multiple roles, & we need carpenters from a variety of backgrounds such as:
 
  • Commercial
  • Civil
  • Ceilings & Interior Fitout on Commercial Projects
  • Large Commercial Structural Steel Erecting
  • Site Supervisor experienced with large scale commercial builds. This role requires you pitch in & be on the tools at times.

YOU NEED TO:
  • Due to travel requirements, you need to be fully vaccinated for Covid-19.
  • Be Trade Qualified & able to provide proof at interview stage.
  • Have referees who can validate your commercial / civil experience.
  • Working in Antarctica requires a varied skillset, please supply a current up to date CV that outlines your commercial skills/experience & types of commercial / civil projects/jobs worked on.
  • Be IT literate & good with dealing with a lot of detailed paperwork.
  • Be patient when working through the application process.  It’s a very long & detailed process to mobilise people & in some cases it may take a few months to work through.
Remote projects require a solid team effort, we’re looking for someone with the right attitude that’s willing to be part of a great hardworking supportive team.

Exceptional fitness is required due to long hours & extreme conditions.
 
WHAT’S ON OFFER:
  • Flights provided from any major NZ airport.
  • Food, shared accommodation, travel insurance provided.
  • $62.78 per hour.  Contract basis, paid fortnightly in NZ$
  • All PPE Supplied

EXPECTED HOURS:
  • 54 hours per week (this won’t change if work is affected by weather)
  • Working 6 out of 7 days
This role is not for the faint hearted; you’ll be staying in one of the most isolated places in the world.
 
DATES: 
Start dates are approx, they are subject to you passing medicals, getting security clearance, your notice period & ice flight availability.  You will be away the entire time; this isn’t a FIFO role.
 
Roles have different start/finish dates & length of time away.  Approx dates are:
 
Site Supervisor: Jan 2025 - Sept 2025
All other carpentry roles: Jan-March / Jan-Sept / Feb-Sept / March-Sept / May-Sept.
 
APPLICATION PROCESS:
The onboarding process is very lengthy due to medical requirements & background checks which will determine exact start dates.
The medicals are quite strict; you need to be in very good health/have excellent fitness.  You will also be required to do a Dental exam & will need good dental health to get clearance.

CRITERIA TO MEET:
  • NZ or US Citizenship & hold a CURRENT Passport.
  • Be currently & permanently residing in New Zealand.
  • Interviews are by phone & video.
  • You must be prepared to travel to Tauranga for dental & medical tests. We pay for tests & provide flights if living outside of Tauranga.
  • Full Class 1 Drivers Licence.
  • Clean criminal record (Police checks will be completed at interview).
  • Can pass pre-employment drug/alcohol testing as well as random testing on site.
  • Able to follow instructions & have good attention to detail.
