Job description

Tradestaff Global is seeking expressions of interest from the below trades to work on McMurdo Station in Antarctica for the next winter season starting between March & May 2025 (depending on the role) through until Approx. Sept 2025.
  • Commercial Carpenters/Builders (Trade Qualified)
  • Commercial Electricians (current NZ Electrical Practicing Licence)
  • Duct Installers
  • Pipefitters
  • Pipe Welders (current ASME IX Ticket)
  • HVAC Technicians
  • Commercial Plumbers (current NZ Certifying Plumbing Licence)
  • Due to travel requirements, you need to be fully vaccinated for Covid-19.
  • If licenses/Qualifications are required (as listed above) you will need to provide proof of these at interview stage
  • Have referees who can validate your experience.
  • Supply a current up to date CV that outlines your skills/experience & types of projects/jobs worked on.
  • Be IT literate & good with dealing with a lot of detailed paperwork.
  • Be patient when working through the application process. It is a very long & detailed process to mobilise people & in some cases it may take a few months to work through.
Remote projects require a solid team effort, we are looking for someone with the right attitude that’s willing to be part of a great hardworking supportive team.

Exceptional fitness is required due to long hours & extreme conditions.
  • Flights provided from any major NZ airport.

  • 54 hours per week (this does not change if the work is affected by weather).
  • Working 6 out of 7 days
This role is not for the faint hearted; you will be staying in one of the most isolated places in the world.
Start dates are subject to passing medicals, your notice period & ice flight availability. You will be away as per time frames below & away the entire time.  *All dates are approximate & are based on the project’s requirements.
Depart: Between March & May 2025.
Return: September 2025.
We are currently in the process of sending people to the ice for the summer season so you may not hear from us straight away. We will contact you as soon as we have further details available. (See for current summer roles).
Due to stringent medical requirements and background checks, the onboarding process is lengthy. You must be in excellent health and pass a comprehensive dental exam.

  • You must be prepared to travel to Tauranga for dental & medical tests. We pay for tests & provide flights if living outside of Tauranga.
  • Full Class 1 Drivers Licence.
  • Clean criminal record (Police checks will be completed at interview).
  • Can pass pre-employment drug/alcohol testing as well as random testing on site.
  • Able to follow instructions & have good attention to detail.
